Pladis Global has partnered with Coveris to introduce fully recyclable paper-based block bottom bags for its confectionery products in the US market, replacing non-recyclable OPP/paper structures. Developed as secondary packaging for confectionery, the new premade bags follow CEFLEX circular design guidelines and align with EU-inspired requirements on recyclability and waste prevention. Coveris leveraged its flexible paper technology and converting expertise to eliminate typical paper bag issues like cracking and fibre break in side gussets, ensuring a premium, consistent shelf appearance. The structure delivers high stiffness, dimensional stability, and a heat-sealable top fold, allowing seamless integration on existing pladis packing lines without compromising speed or seal integrity. Pladis reports that the solution meets its sustainability and quality expectations while supporting circular economy principles and offering a scalable path for future paper packaging innovations in confectionery.
