PulPac announced that Zipform Packaging has become a licensee of its Dry Molded Fiber technology and will focus on developing meat trays using the process.
Under the agreement, Zipform will use PulPac’s technology platform to produce fiber-based trays intended for meat packaging applications. The development targets an alternative to conventional plastic trays, aligning with efforts to reduce plastic use in food packaging.
PulPac stated that its Dry Molded Fiber process is designed to use less water and energy compared with traditional wet molding methods. The technology also enables high-speed production and compatibility with existing converting and packaging systems, according to the company.
Zipform’s planned application will focus on meeting functional requirements for meat packaging, including strength, barrier performance, and compatibility with supply chain processes. The trays are expected to be designed for industrial-scale manufacturing using PulPac’s licensed technology.
The agreement expands PulPac’s network of licensees, which are applying the Dry Molded Fiber process across various packaging formats and end uses. The company positions its licensing model as a way to accelerate adoption of fiber-based alternatives in multiple sectors.
No timeline for commercial production or market launch of the meat trays was disclosed in the announcement.
