Rayonier Advanced Materials (RYAM) reported lower sales and a wider net loss for the first quarter of 2026, impacted by weaker market conditions and non-cash charges related to the permanent idling of dissolving wood pulp production at its Temiscaming facility in Canada.
Net sales for the quarter totaled $319 million, down from $353 million in the prior-year period. The company posted a net loss of $81 million, compared with a net loss of $32 million a year earlier. The quarterly result included approximately $41 million in non-cash permanent idling charges tied to the Temiscaming high-purity cellulose operation.
Adjusted EBITDA declined to $8 million from $17 million in the same quarter last year. Despite weaker earnings, RYAM generated $32 million in cash from operating activities and reported adjusted free cash flow of $12 million.
The company said results were affected by lower cellulose specialties volumes and softer commodity pricing. In its paperboard segment, RYAM continued to face pressure from additional U.S. capacity entering the market, while high-yield pulp operations were impacted by weaker demand and oversupply conditions in China.
RYAM also announced it is continuing a strategic alternatives review aimed at maximizing shareholder value.
