SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP) outlined its approach to addressing increasingly stringent global environmental regulations through sustainable packaging solutions, emphasizing innovation and collaboration as critical factors for maintaining competitiveness in international markets.
The company shared its perspective during the session “Commit and Compete: The Sustainability Game in the Packaging Arena” at EARTH JUMP 2026: A Bridge to Empowered Actions, an event organized by KBANK.
Danaidej Ketsuwan, Chief Financial Officer of SCGP, said the packaging industry is undergoing significant transformation due to evolving environmental regulations and growing sustainability expectations. He identified Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations as a major development, requiring manufacturers and importers to assume responsibility for packaging throughout its post-consumer lifecycle.
According to Danaidej, SCGP has responded through its Design for Recycling approach, which focuses on reducing material use and improving recyclability from the product design stage. The company cited initiatives at Go-Pak UK Limited, its foodservice packaging business in the United Kingdom, including the use of recycled PET (rPET) in recyclable plastic packaging and recycled paper for non-food-contact applications such as coffee cup sleeves. SCGP has also established a recycling network under the Individual Producer Responsibility (IPR) principle to support the collection and recycling of used packaging materials.
Danaidej noted that SCGP’s paper packaging business now produces packaging that is fully recyclable and that 93% of the raw materials used in its paper packaging operations are recycled materials.
The company also highlighted four consumer trends influencing packaging development: aging populations, increasing pet ownership, digital transformation, and rising demand for sustainability. In response, SCGP has continued to develop packaging solutions in collaboration with customers, including mono-material flexible packaging designed for easier recycling and Fest Redi Pak, a fiber-based food packaging solution featuring a removable plastic coating to facilitate recycling.
In the paper packaging segment, SCGP highlighted innovations such as Green Carton by SCGP, Shelf-Ready Packaging, and the Octagon box design, which the company said help reduce material consumption, improve logistics efficiency, and lower environmental impacts.
During the event, representatives from multiple organizations discussed the need for cooperation across the packaging value chain, including manufacturers, brand owners, government agencies, distributors, waste management providers, and consumers, to support the development of a competitive and sustainable circular economy.
