Schaeffler has introduced its FAG TORB toroidal roller bearings for paper machine applications, targeting improved operational efficiency and reliability in demanding production environments.
The company said the bearings are designed to withstand conditions commonly found in paper manufacturing, including moisture, high temperatures, shaft deflection, high rotational speeds, and extended operating periods. The bearings are intended for use in dryer and Yankee cylinders, press rolls, and thermo rolls.
According to Schaeffler, the TORB bearings combine characteristics of spherical and cylindrical roller bearings in a single design. The company said the solution can increase machine availability, extend component service life, and improve paper quality while reducing total cost of ownership.
The TORB bearings are designed to function as non-locating bearings alongside spherical roller bearings used as locating bearings. Schaeffler stated that the arrangement can compensate for thermal expansion and shaft misalignment while supporting longer system life.
The bearing raceway profile is engineered to distribute loads evenly and support low-friction operation. Schaeffler said the bearings can accommodate axial displacement of up to +/-10% of bearing width and compensate for misalignment of up to 0.5° without affecting load capacity or bearing life. The bearings also feature X-life quality specifications intended to reduce friction, lubricant consumption, and energy use.
The product range includes multiple series for shaft diameters from 75 mm to 850 mm, with designs available in cylindrical or tapered bore versions and internal clearance classes CN, C3, and C4. The bearings are rated for operating temperatures up to 200°C and comply with DIN 616:2000 and ISO 15:2017 standards.
