Around 100 workers at Kruger’s carton and cardboard packaging plant in LaSalle, Montreal, have launched a seven-day strike, escalating a labour dispute centred on wage demands amid high inflation. The walkout, which follows a shorter 36‑hour strike in November, comes after union members rejected the latest mediated offer by 92.5%, arguing that the proposal fails to prevent the “impoverishment” of workers after years of rising living costs. The plant supplies carton packaging for well-known tissue brands such as Cashmere, Scotties and SpongeTowels, as well as pharmaceutical and agri-food customers, raising concerns over potential disruptions in regional packaging supply chains if the conflict drags on. Kruger management insists its offer offsets recent inflation and improves purchasing power, but has declined to provide further details while negotiations continue with the CSN-affiliated union.
