STADLER Anlagenbau GmbH has been awarded a major contract by Ecourbis Ambiental S.A. to design and construct the UTM Leste municipal solid waste (MSW) sorting plant in São Paulo, Brazil. Scheduled to start operations in August 2027, the plant will process 135 tons per hour, recovering 48,000 tons of recyclables including plastics, metals, and paper annually, while producing 260,000 tons of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) and 170,000 tons of organics for biogas. This project exemplifies São Paulo’s circular economy strategy by drastically reducing landfill diversion by over 308,000 tons per year and employing advanced AI through STADLERconnect for process optimization. Adapting European technology to Brazilian waste conditions, UTM Leste will promote environmental sustainability, resource recovery, social job creation, and Greenhouse Gas emissions reduction. It stands as a regional model for eco-innovation, transforming diverse waste streams into valuable materials and renewable energy.
