Sterimed has acquired the Simagec Group, a French supplier of medical packaging solutions for pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers, as the company expands its presence in rigid medical packaging and pharmaceutical packaging activities.

Simagec, headquartered near Marseille in southern France, employs 120 people and operates across several medical packaging segments. The company’s activities include rigid and flexible packaging solutions, contract packaging for medical devices, and validation and qualification services.

The group has also developed pharmaceutical packaging capabilities through its Sima Pharma business, which packages disinfectant liquids in aseptic clean rooms. In addition, its Sima Meca engineering division designs and manufactures machinery and equipment for internal operations and medical-sector customers.

Sterimed said the acquisition complements its existing operations and strengthens its offering to medical device manufacturers while accelerating its strategic growth in the pharmaceutical sector.

Michel Lopez, controlling shareholder and chairman of Simagec, and Eléonore Jacquin, managing director, will continue to lead Simagec’s operations within Sterimed. Both executives will also join Sterimed’s executive committee and become shareholders in the group through reinvestment in the Les Amis de Sterimed structure.

Thibaut Hyvernat, chairman and chief executive officer of Sterimed, said the transaction would allow the company to enter two additional business areas: rigid packaging for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging.

Sterimed, headquartered in France, produces medical and pharmaceutical packaging and sterile barrier systems for healthcare applications. The company operates across 25 sites worldwide, including 15 production facilities, and employs around 1,700 people. The group reported annual sales of nearly €350 million and has completed 10 acquisitions since 2016 across Europe, Latin America, Mexico, China, and the United Kingdom.
