Stora Enso has completed negotiations on the permanent closure of its Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) production unit at Gruvön in Sweden. The unit will be permanently closed by the end of 2026. As a result of the decision, approximately 80 positions will be affected.

In September 2026, Stora Enso announced plans to permanently discontinue CLT production at Gruvön sawmill. Following the conclusion of negotiations, the company has decided to proceed with the closure. The CLT operations at Gruvön have been challenged by slower than expected market growth in recent years. In addition, increasing wood costs and relatively high fixed production costs have continued to pressure profitability.

“This has been a difficult decision. I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Gruvön CLT and sales teams for their commitment and valuable contributions over the years. Our priority is to support the employees affected by the closure. We will work closely with other Stora Enso sites and relevant stakeholders to explore new employment opportunities. This support will include relocation assistance, career transition coaching, and opportunities to move to other Stora Enso locations,” says Jonas Lindqvist, Head of Business Unit Skoghall, Stora Enso.

Following the closure decision, change negotiations will continue regarding the personnel impact. No redundancies will be implemented before these negotiations have been concluded.

Stora Enso is the largest CLT producer in Europe and will continue to serve CLT customers from its production units in Ždírec in the Czech Republic and in Ybbs and Bad St. Leonhard in Austria. Sawn goods deliveries to customers from Gruvön continue as usual.
