Stora Enso’s Beihai Mill in Guangxi, China, has marked its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of operations focused on safety, quality, efficiency and sustainable growth.
The Beihai Mill began operations on May 26, 2016, and has since become one of Stora Enso’s largest investments outside Europe. The company said total accumulated investment in the facility has reached approximately EUR 1.2 billion (RMB 9.6 billion). The mill is also described as the largest single Nordic industrial investment in China and a contributor to the development of the Beibu Gulf region.
Today, the integrated site has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes of food-grade packaging board, 240,000 tonnes of bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP), and 80,000 tonnes of polyethylene-coated board. Its products are used in food and beverage packaging, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and children’s books.
According to Stora Enso, the mill has supplied around 4.5 million tonnes of renewable packaging materials over the past decade, supporting customers with packaging solutions while contributing to the shift toward more sustainable packaging.
“With strong execution and continuous improvement, the Beihai team has demonstrated high operational capability. As we focus on renewable materials and consumer packaging, the Beihai Mill will continue to play an important role in Stora Enso’s strategy,” said Markku Luoto, Head of Foodservice and Liquid Board Business Area.
Zhigang Fu, Beihai Mill Director, said the site has consistently focused on safety, quality, efficiency and sustainable development while working to deliver reliable products and build customer confidence.
As the facility enters its second decade, Stora Enso said it plans to further strengthen operational efficiency, advance sustainable practices and develop fibre-based packaging solutions in collaboration with customers, partners and local communities. The Beihai site is part of the company’s Foodservice and Liquid Board business area.
