Suzano has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of Eucanatural, a brown eucalyptus pulp developed for packaging, flexible papers, and air filter applications. The product was created by the company’s research and development team at its Aracruz Technology Center in Espírito Santo and is now being produced at industrial scale.

Eucanatural is positioned as an alternative material with reduced chemical input requirements and natural coloration, eliminating the need for a bleaching stage. According to the company, the pulp offers a combination of mechanical resistance and process efficiency, targeting segments seeking lower environmental impact materials.

Development of the product began in 2020, followed by laboratory-based technical validation between 2021 and 2022. During this phase, Suzano simulated industrial conditions and conducted analyses of physical and chemical properties alongside pilot-scale testing. The process was scaled to industrial production in 2023, culminating in a recent production campaign that formally integrated Eucanatural into the company’s commercial portfolio.

Lucas Ornelas Jacinto, senior researcher at Suzano, said the initiative addresses growing demand for high-performance materials with reduced environmental impact. He noted that few companies globally currently produce brown pulp for the market and highlighted the product’s lower chemical consumption due to the absence of bleaching.

The transition to industrial-scale production involved coordination between R&D and operational teams. Fabrício José da Silva, Director of Industrial Operations at Suzano, said collaboration between the Aracruz Technology Center and mill operations was essential to ensure product quality, safety, and performance as the innovation moved from laboratory to commercial scale.
