Suzano Takes 10% Stake in New Port Project in Espírito Santo

Suzano, the world’s largest producer of market pulp, has agreed to take a 10% stake in a new port project in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, through a contribution of land rather than cash.

The agreement, announced on August 31, gives Suzano a 10% interest in Imetame Logística Porto S.A., the company behind the greenfield port project. Grupo Imetame is the seller. The value of the land contribution was not disclosed.

The project involves developing a new port at Aracruz on Brazil’s southeastern coast. No construction timeline or operational details were provided.

The investment is separate from Portocel, a private terminal at Barra do Riacho in Aracruz, where Suzano holds a 51% stake and Cenibra owns the remaining 49%.

Portocel specializes in pulp but also handles vehicles, granite, steel products, salt and project cargo. The terminal has berths for ships and barges and road, rail and barge logistics infrastructure.

Suzano’s new investment expands its participation in port infrastructure in Espírito Santo, although the company did not disclose how the new facility will be used.

The company’s 10% stake is being obtained without an upfront cash payment. Financial details of the transaction beyond the land contribution were not disclosed.

The new project remains at the greenfield stage, and its development timeline has not been announced.
