Troitskaya Paper has begun production of antibacterial parchment paper designed to extend food shelf life and enhance safety across the supply chain. The product incorporates a patented biocidal composition, “Chistekh,” developed by NPO Biotech, a resident of the Skolkovo Innovation Center.
The antibacterial solution is applied directly to the parchment surface and functions through the prolonged release of silver ions. According to the company, the technology differs from existing alternatives by delivering a sustained antimicrobial effect that inhibits bacteria, viruses, and mold. It also creates a protective three-dimensional field extending beyond the packaging surface. The material is described as environmentally friendly, safe for human use, and certified by Russia’s health regulator for direct food contact.
Dmitry Dulkin, Managing Partner of OBF Company, said the move to industrial-scale production addresses both consumer and retail demands. He noted the focus on preserving freshness, reducing reliance on imported materials, and supporting sustainability initiatives.
Testing conducted with national retail chains indicated that the use of antibacterial parchment in fruit and vegetable storage can reduce product losses by up to 40%. The company said the solution helps maintain food quality from production through to retail shelves.
The initial pilot batch has already been produced, with full-scale serial production scheduled to begin in May. The project is being implemented with support from Kuzbass Technopark, a regional operator affiliated with Skolkovo.
TBF stated that the combination of its manufacturing capabilities and Skolkovo-backed technology could contribute to new standards in food storage within Russia and potentially in international markets.
