The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has seized more than 8,000 rolls of substandard toilet paper during enforcement operations conducted in Kampala and Entebbe, according to local media reports.

The operation targeted manufacturers and traders suspected of producing or distributing products that failed to meet Uganda’s quality and safety standards. UNBS officials said the seized toilet paper did not comply with required specifications related to product quality and labeling.

Authorities stated that the enforcement exercise forms part of broader market surveillance efforts aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring compliance with national standards across Uganda’s manufacturing and retail sectors.

UNBS warned manufacturers and distributors against placing non-compliant hygiene and tissue products on the market, adding that legal and regulatory action may be taken against offenders. The agency also urged consumers to verify certification marks when purchasing tissue and paper hygiene products.

The seizure highlights ongoing regulatory scrutiny of fast-moving consumer goods in Uganda, particularly products linked to public health and sanitation.
