Valmet will supply a complete bleached chemi-thermo mechanical pulping (BCTMP) line and evaporation plant to ITC’s Bhadrachalam mill in India, aiming to increase high-quality pulp production and improve operational efficiency. The new line will use Valmet’s high-temperature chemi-thermo mechanical pulping (HT-CTMP) technology, alongside automation and flow control solutions.

The delivery includes a BCTMP line with a capacity of 350 bone-dry tonnes per day, an evaporation plant, flash drying and baling equipment, a Valmet DNA distributed control system (DCS), flow control solutions and a spare parts package. Valmet will also supply a new white liquor disc filter for the mill’s recausticizing line.

Valmet’s HT-CTMP technology operates at elevated temperatures to produce intact fibres, supporting pulp quality while reducing energy consumption during refining. The technology is designed for a range of fibre-based applications, including lightweight board grades, and offers bulk and strength properties alongside high wood yield and energy efficiency.

The evaporation plant will concentrate spent pulping liquor for combustion in the mill’s high-power recovery boiler. According to Valmet, this is intended to improve energy efficiency and reduce the mill’s environmental load. The flash drying and baling system will provide flexibility to manage production imbalances.

“We target to produce high quality Pulp with high operational efficiency,” said Harinarayanan, divisional head of ITC Paperboards and Specialty Papers, referring to the adoption of Valmet’s HT-CTMP technology.

Valmet’s cooperation with ITC Bhadrachalam dates to the 1990s, when it delivered a multilayer paperboard machine. The companies have since continued working together on technology, maintenance and upgrade projects.

The order was included in Valmet’s orders received in the second quarter of 2026. Its value has not been disclosed. Start-up of the new line is planned for the second quarter of 2028.
