Yeni Paper Mill Trials Bamboo Varieties for Paper Pulp Production

Trials are underway at the laboratory of Yeni Paper Mill in Bago Region to produce paper pulp from different bamboo varieties, according to the factory.

The trial process was inspected on Tuesday morning by Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr. Charlie Than, accompanied by government officials.

During the visit, the minister instructed officials to maintain proper records of research activities, evaluate the commercial viability of bamboo-based pulp production, and prepare for the transfer of relevant technologies to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). He also called for technical support to develop local production of digesters used in paper manufacturing.

As part of the visit, Dr. Charlie Than inspected packaging paper production at the 20-tonne Yeni Paper Mill and reviewed operations at KKN Tissue and Golden Bamboo Chopstick Enterprise in Myohla, Yedashe Township. He also visited the 50-tonne YDE Pulp and Paper Company Limited paper mill, where machinery installation is underway, and inspected operations at the 50-tonne Kyaw Moe Naing Family rice mill.

During the inspections, the minister provided guidance on operational matters and coordinated solutions to issues raised by MSME entrepreneurs.

The bamboo pulp trials form part of ongoing research at Yeni Paper Mill to assess the potential of different bamboo varieties for paper pulp production and their commercial feasibility.
